Keeping children safe at home includes a range of surroundings change and safer behaviors. There are a lot and sometimes complex changes to be done, , but even the smallest one brings us to a “safe home for children.”

The bathroom is a wonderful place for children to learn different skills, such as brushing their teeth and brushing their hair. While bathing, they may learn and develop even more skills, along with the pleasure of wading in the water and blossoming soap bubbles.

Bathing time is a quality time for the child and the parent. its the time to clean up from the day, with pleasant aromas and soothing water around you. But it is important to know that even in these tranquil moments of bathing, there are dangers that we need to protect our children from.

The main dangers for kids in the bathtub are drowning, burns, slipping and poisoning. That’s why the most important rule: Children under 4 years old should not be allowed to stay in the bathroom without the supervising adult.

How to prevent drowning:

Drowning occurs quickly and silently. Within two minutes the child may lose consciousness, 4 minutes after drowning, irreversible brain damage occurs and 6 minutes later the child may lose his or her life.

Don’t leave a child alone in the bathtub – not even for a moment.

Prepare everything you need for a bath in advance.

Remember to empty the tub, inflatable pool, bucket or bathtub.

How to prevent burns:

Burns are one of the most common winter season injuries. The highest-risk age group is infants and toddlers from birth to 4 years old, which account for 78% of burn injuries.

Hot fluids are the most significant risk factor for burns.  Kids skin is more delicate than adults and therefore kids and babies burn faster and more severely.

Install an accessory that limits the water temperature to 122 F the home plumbing and / or bathroom faucets.

It is recommended to use only room heaters suitable for the bath and keep appliances out of the reach of children.

How to prevent slipping

To prevent slipping it is important to place a rubber rug or stickers on the bottom of the bathtub

How to prevent poisoning

Hazardous materials and devices (such as detergents, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, sharp devices, etc.) should be stored in a special place that is high and / or locked and not accessible for children.
